ISR AS A SERVICE BY NVL

EFFICIENT MARITIME RECONNAISSANCE
- With the new business model “ISR as a Service by NVL” (ISR – Intelligence, Surveillance, Reconnaissance) which includes the deployment of market-available unmanned surface vessels (USVs), NVL is offering security authorities from Germany and other NATO member states as well as commercial customers, an effective and fast solution for the targeted and long-term surveillance of predefined maritime areas
- To gain a comprehensive situational picture and to identify anomalies, data is being collected by cutting-edge sensors, transferred to the NVL operation centre, merged and provided from there to the customer
- Provision, operation and maintenance/repair of the USVs are all offered by NVL, thereby reducing the customers’ requirements for own personnel and materials
- With the ISRaaS business model, NVL is offering customers targeted support in gaining real time situational awareness. At the same time, it is making a significant contribution to the security of the Federal Republic of Germany, the NATO member states and their civilian population

PROTECTING GERMANY AND THE NATO MEMBER STATES
“As the leading systems provider of surface vessels, we have been active in the research and development of unmanned and autonomous systems for many years now. We have harnessed our knowledge and experience specifically to design and start up the ISRaaS business model in the shortest time possible to support our security authorities in effectively protecting our country. We are already cooperating in this area with German and European technology partners today and have the respective broad-reaching network available to us as well as the necessary knowledge to rapidly realise this cost-effective solution for unmanned systems.” Tim Wagner, CEO of NVL
GAINING A COMPREHENSIVE SITUATIONAL PICTURE
The threat by sabotage and spy activities in the North and Baltic Seas is increasing significantly. To monitor the seas efficiently and continually 24/7, and to protect trade routes and critical infrastructure in particular, it is essential to gain a comprehensive situational picture. This requires substantial capacities and human resources from the Federal Republic of Germany and from commercial customers, who can be supported in the future by unmanned systems.
A promising solution to this challenge is NVL’s ISRaaS business model: NVL is using market-available USVs configured to meet the needs of military customers, security authorities and operators of critical infrastructure. The NVL-managed USVs patrol areas predefined by the customer. They demonstrate presence, identify anomalies and collect data from sensors. The data captured by the USVs is provided to the customer via a standardised interface or a customer portal. This enables the customer to gain a comprehensive situational picture. The innovative ISRaaS business model by NVL is making an essential contribution to the protection of critical infrastructure and of trade routes, and thus to national and alliance defence.
The ISR as a Service by NVL will be ready for deployment less than twelve months upon completion of the contract. With this business model NVL is developing a fast, deployment-ready solution for the increasingly worsening threat situation.
As a years-long and reliable partner to the German Navy, NVL, its shipyards and its established NVL Services, is well equipped for this project. The ISRaaS business model enables fast deployment and a high availability of systems. Future updates could deliver an integrated multi-domain situational picture, for instance with the help of artificial intelligence. Moreover, the model can be leveraged for civil applications like offshore wind farms or oil platforms, whose operators are legally obligated to ensure the protection of their facilities.
The USVs are manufactured within the EU and are already in use there.
